LIB 098 Work Experience

LIB 098 Work Experience

LIB 098 is required for the Library Technology Certificate. It is not required for the AA degree.

Student Responsibilities

  • Students must make their own arrangements for volunteer or paid work in a library before beginning LIB 098.
  • For 1 unit, students must complete 60 hours of volunteer or 75 hours of paid work during the semester. 
  • Students can take up to 4 units during a semester but must contact the instructor before class starts.
  • Students may earn a total of 16 units toward graduation in Work Experience 098 courses.
  • Students should be approved to begin working at the job site during the first couple weeks of class.
  • Worksites are typically in person. To discuss hybrid or online positions, contact the Library Technology Chair.
  • Students must attend a Zoom meeting on the evening of the first day of class. This information will be in Canvas. 
  • Students perform their job duties, create a workable schedule, and complete their scheduled hours as agreed upon with supervisor.

LIB 098 may be waived if the student has been employed in a library for at least one year at full time (or equivalent)

 

Student Paperwork and Assignments

  • Work Experience Application
  • Student Performance Objectives (developed with and signed by supervisor) 
  • Monthly Timesheets
  • Class assignments (including discussions and final project)

 

Site Supervisor Responsibilities

  • Review and sign the supervisor section of the Student Performance Objectives form. 
  • Work with the student in developing Student Performance Objectives.
  • Provide supervision and guidance on the job.
  • Review and sign your time sheets, verifying the hours worked each day during the month.
